This case describes the changes Lyndon Stone must deal with to operate his business successfully. His clothing store has been successful in a downtown location in Ashland. The city has grown significantly since he first established his store and he is facing increased competition from a suburban mall. He is tempted to move to this mall because it is closer to a larger portion of his customer base. However, the move will require him to rent rather than own his store and the store will have to be open twenty-three hours more a week than it is presently. Also he has been very active in the downtown merchant's association and persuaded several retailers to stay downtown rather than move to the suburbs. He feels guilty about deserting them but his sales have not been increasing as they should over the last three years.
