Abstract

Dentists find making veneers for any patient potentially stressful. However, when the patient is a professional model or actor an even higher level of intensity is placed on the dentist to produce a final product of perfection in both the patient’s and the industry’s eyes. Dr. Richard, an accomplished dentist with ten years post graduate training, began treating Meggan, a model and actor new to the business. Meggan wanted to have veneers because an agent told her that her teeth needed to be straightened before she would be successful in television. Once Dr. Richard was finished with providing treatment he realized that Meggan was not able to pay in full. Dr. Richard gave Meggan a payment plan that they both agreed upon. Meggan kept to the plan for the first couple of months and then paid nothing. Even after Meggan began getting much visibility in her television career, she still made no payments. It became clear to Dr. Richard that he was not going to get paid in full for the veneers. After a year and a half Meggan returned to the office for a repair of the veneers. Dr. Richard must now decide what he should do.
